What’s Involved in Treatment?
The aim of our therapy is to provide a supportive and safe environment. The intervention is tailor-made and takes the client’s individual needs and strengths into account. It is our understanding that it is impossible to solely treat a problem or disease, rather we have to strengthen and equip each individual client in order to learn strategies and to deal with the issues themselves. This holistic approach is based on collaboration and mutual respect. A number of effective strategies are offered, which include:
- The use of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) as a baseline approach, with added other treatment modalities, depending on individual needs (for example ACT, REBT, or DBT)
- Psychoeducation and information regarding assessment, diagnoses, intervention strategies, support networks, resources, links and other relevant data in the mental health
- Relaxation training and Mindfulness training, including breathing retraining, muscle relaxation, meditation
- The use of therapeutical hypnosis to complement the CBT approach
- Cognitive restructuring, including identifying and challenging unhelpful and unrealistic thought patterns and core beliefs
- Exposure and Desensitization techniques to effect behavioural change
- Specific skills training (for example, social skills training, leadership skills, parenting skills)
- Teaching of Problem Solving strategies
- Assertiveness training as an underlying foundation for change of behaviours and change of thinking patterns
- Teaching and monitoring of Behavioural Activation strategies
- Teaching and development of Goal Setting strategies, including monitoring and support during the implementation process (e.g. home, education, work)
- Discussion and support in the process of Changing Lifestyle Factors in order to improve overall satisfaction and mental and physical health
