Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology
Jo Clarkson is a Registered Clinical Psychologist. My background is in both child/adolescent and adult mental health and the experience I gained in the public mental health system is translated into my private practice work for difficult and complex mental health issues. I originally came from a background in administration and business and after travelling and living around the world for a number of years decided to come back to the Waikato region where I grew up. Not only am I an avid art enthusiast, I’ve always had a real interest in wanting to understand people – how people think, act, react and interact. Seeing how much we as individuals can empower ourselves and take more control of our lives encouraged me to train in psychology and thus develop a real passion for teaching other individuals the benefits of therapy and in particular Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Overall, CBT allows me to integrate my experiences and knowledge with specific psychological training, in order to achieve a holistic and a tailor-made approach for therapy, supervision and teaching. My past business experience has been very helpful for my work with corporate clients including EAP programmes and presenting specific workshops. My aim is being able to provide a holistic and integrated team approach to health.
I provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) alongside other therapeutic approaches depending on needs of the individual in order to support with understanding, preventing and relieving distress including anxiety, stress and depression as well as many other mental health needs, and promoting an individual’s well-being and personal development. There is a whole range of psychological issues that can be addressed successfully by CBT. I work with children, youth, and adults as well as families, and work collaboratively with other health professionals involved. Also provided are ACC psychological services, Employer Assisted Programmes as well as support for Medical Assurance Society/Medical Protection Society members and other private insurance companies. As a matter of course, high quality and experienced psychological support and intervention is provided for individuals with anxiety, depression, trauma related issues and other mental health concerns.
